Cognitive Behavioural Therapist

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of evidence-based psychotherapy used to treat anxiety and mood disorders. CBT emphasizes the role of thinking in how we feel and how we behave, and it focuses on techniques that can help us change our thinking, our responses to others, and our mood; even when other people or the situation cannot change. CBT is a time-limited therapy (usually 10 to 16 sessions), and education and homework are central components. CBT is not strictly talk therapy, but rather a structured and directive approach that teaches you specific skills and techniques to ‘become your own therapist’.

The Delhi Family Health Team Cognitive Behavioural Therapist obtained her Ph.D. in 2002, and has practiced as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist since 2006. She was certified a Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT) 2010, and is the founding member of The Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CACBT-ACTCC).
